IN THE MART WAS HELD THE MEETING WITH THE HEAD OF THE COMPETITION AND CONSUMER POLICIES BRANCH OF THE UNCTAD MS. TERESA MOREIRA

On November 5, 2018 in the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade of the Republic of Belarus was held the meeting with the Head of the Competition  and Consume Policies Branch  of the UNCTAD  Ms.Teresa Moreira in the framework of her visit to Minsk on 5-6 November 2018.

During the Meeting the Minister of Antimonopoly regulation and trade Vladimir Koltovich informed Theresa Moreira about the activities of the Ministry in the field of competition and antimonopoly regulation, as well as the main areas of cooperation of the Belarusian Antimonopoly Agency with leading international organizations. The special importance of the UNCTAD platform for addressing issues of international cooperation in the field of competition development was noted.

The main topic of the Meeting was the preparation of the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On Counteracting Monopolistic Activity and Competition Development" review by UNCTAD experts for its compliance with the Model Law on Competition and best international practices. The preparation of the review will be considered in more detail by MART experts and UNCTAD experts during a videoconference workshop scheduled for 15 November 2018.

Following the Meeting an agreement was reached on the preparation of this review before the end of this year.

In addition, the prospect of UNCTAD's voluntary peer review (preview) of the Law of the Republic of Belarus and competition law enforcement practice with the issuance of relevant UNCTAD recommendations was discussed during the Meeting. Teresa Moreira noted that such an assessment will allow the Republic of Belarus to effectively integrate into the overall system of competition protection and development.
