Development of infrastructure of household services in the Republic of Belarus as of January 1, 2018

The sphere of household services for the population of the Republic of Belarus is a diverse business activity, which includes 157 types of household services.

According to the Register of Household Services of the Republic of Belarus as of January 1, 2018, 33.7 thousand economic entities (33% of which are legal entities and 67% are self-employed entrepreneurs) provide household services in more than 27.4 thousand facilities.

Last year, there was a growth in economic entities, as well as an increase in the facilities of household services. At the end of 2017, these figures were at the level of 10.8% and 5.3% respectively.

The most developed infrastructure of household services is in Minsk (5 826 facilities) and Brest Region (4 465). The smallest number of household service facilities is in Mogilev (3 121) and Vitebsk (3 122) Regions.

The household service facilities that provide the following services are the most prevalent and demanded:

• hairdressing (18.6% of the total number of the household service facilities);
• maintenance and repair of vehicles (12.7%);
• repair and tailoring (9.5%);
• repair and installation of computers, office and other machinery and equipment (7.6%);
• footwear repair and tailoring (6.6%);
• rental (6.6%). 
   

In rural settlements, household services are provided by about 13% of entities registered with the Register of Household Services or by more than 4.3 thousand economic entities (growth rate in 2017 is 115%) in more than 3.6 thousand facilities (109.9%).

In district centers, household services are provided by about 36% of entities registered with the Register of Household Services or by more than 12.1 thousand economic entities (growth rate in 2017 is 109.9%) in more than 9.4 thousand facilities (111%).

In 2017, the sphere of household services included about 3.3 thousand entities, which set up about 3.7 thousand new facilities. At the same time, about half of the set up facilities of household services were located in district centers and rural settlements.

According to statistical data, following the results of 2017, the volume of household services provided through all channels amounted to 99.6% in comparable prices (95.2% in 2016).

The share of household services in the volume of paid services amounted to 9.3% in 2017 (9.9% in 2016).
